The Basic Law of Islamic Education

The basis of Islamic education is the main foundation in the implementation of education that directs educational activities. The basis also determines the direction and steps of educational activities. Without that foundation, then education has no direction and goals to be achieved, so the education process is not systematic, effective and efficient. Likewise with the Islamic religious education, religious education activities of course have a basis or foundation that determines the movement of steps and objectives of educational development activities.
The main basis of Islamic education is sourced from the Qur'an and the hadith. Both are a source of law as well as the basis of education, because in the Qur'an and hadith there are materials and guidelines for the implementation of education. Therefore, the Qur'an and Hadith are the main basis for the development of Islamic education. This is similar to the expression Jalaluddin that the basic Islamic religious education is synonymous with the teachings of Islam itself. Both come from the same source that is the Qur'an and hadith.1
This opinion is reinforced by Zakiah Daradjat that Islamic education is derived from Islamic teachings contained in the Qur'an and hadith.2 Oemar Muhammad al-Toumy al-Syaibany also revealed that the basic teachings and guidance in all areas of life is the book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet
Based on some of the above views, it is clear that the education of Islam comes from the Qur'an and hadith. So that the process of education in Islam can not be separated from the guidance of the Qur'an and hadith as the source of the foundation. The educational process adheres to these two sources is Islamic education and it also distinguishes between the style of Islamic education with the style of education than in general.
As proof that al-Qur'an is the basis of Islamic religious education, seen in one of its verses that encourages people to master science through the process of learning. When the first revelation was revealed, Islam emphatically ordered or encouraged his people to master science. This assertiveness can be seen from the first verse revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, as contained in the Qur'an letter al-'Alaq verses 1-5 as follows:

Meaning: "Read with (call) the name of your Lord who created. He has created man from a clot of blood. Read and God is the most generous. Who teaches man by means of kalam. He taught man what he did not know. "(Q.S. Al-'Alaq: 1-5)

The above verse in relation to science, Muhammad Abduh explained that "there is no more perfect word than this verse in stating the importance of reading and writing science in all its branches and parts. Also in relation to this verse Ar-Razi explains that Allah SWT commands to seek knowledge by means of qalam or pen. This implies how important Muslims are to learn and to seek knowledge
Hadith is also the basis of Islamic education. This is evident in one of the hadith of Prophet Muhammad SAW revealed that the study is obligatory for every Muslim. The command to study is also based on one of the Prophet Muhammad's hadith as follows:

Meaning: "From Muhammad bin Sairin, from Anas bin Malik said, said Rasulullah SAW:" Demanding knowledge is necessary / obliged upon every Muslim and Muslim. "(Narrated by Ibn Majah) .6

Thus the teachings of Islam advocate his people to demand knowledge to improve the welfare and living standards of the community. Islamic teaching considers science as a must to do according to the abilities and possibilities that exist in each individual. Religious education is very important to implement in order to realize the full human development. Islamic religious education is important in order to understand and appreciate the values of Islamic Shari'ah and to make people more familiar with their religion.
